At the start of a new year, I will be making an effort to incorporate school curriculum into our music program. We will have Words of the day, that will make you think of definitions rather than when asked a definition and defining it with the word. Music is about expression and you first must make sure you know how to express yourself vocally as well. The words of the day will have highlighted and bolded words to point out what are the key points to each word. Take a moment each day to look at the door to get into the band room to acknowledge the word. We will be using the words throughout every lesson and rehearsal.
On this site, we also will be posting our weekly reminders that are on the board every week, and any homework activities, including specific things to practice in each class for each section/ensemble, as well as computer assignments that will be posted. Please make an effort to visit the site, including this link to keep updated and write dates in the calendar!
- Ms. L
Explanation of how you get the grade you do on pinnacle:
- On Music Ace, a full 100 points for each lesson and game completed is awarded to a score of 2000 or more points. You can do any lesson and game more than once to get a higher score.
- On EMT, a score for the review is given as your grade on pinnacle. (Out of 100%) You can retake the review as many times as you want, and the highest score gets taken. Once you start a review, you must finish it; if you don’t finish it, the score will not count.
- Participation in class key to excelling in music. A participation grade is based on practice at home, focus and energy, asking questions and answering questions, and being in your seat ready to start class. Participation grades are usually given twice a quarter and are worth 100 points each.
- Attendance at rehearsals, games, concerts, competitions, adjudications, and other events (even fundraisers) are the BIGGEST grade. Rehearsals (and for some there are a lot!) are worth 100 points each, as are games. Concerts are usually worth 100 points, and competitions and adjudications are worth 200 points. Missing a rehearsal unexcused results in a 0 and will affect your grade. Anyone who is late to rehearsal will lose 20% off the total points, and missing sectionals can also result in a 10% loss of a rehearsal grade as well.
- It is important to be at all rehearsals and events. You must tell Ms. L when you cannot attend rehearsals so you are excused. With poor attendance at rehearsals, we cannot succeed!
